Ten years of Blessings

Get to know our teachers…

 Toddler Room

Hello, my name is Shirley Pegues.   I am 63 years old and I have worked for CLC since April 2012.  To the children I am Mrs. Shirley.  If you come to my class you will likely find me reading to the children.  I have a good strong voice and I like to portray the characters as I read.   My favorite book to read is Brown Bear, Brown Bear. When I am not at work, I am busy taking care of my family and my church family.  I also like to sew.

Working with toddlers can be very amusing especially when they start to form whole sentences.  I remember when Harper V. came into the room; all the other children were running around and noisy.  Harper, not yet two years old, looked around and said, “What the hammer!”  We all got a BIG LAUGH!  My friends are so young, but are very smart.  They repeat most of what they hear and start to communicate their needs and wants to us.  Kids this age love to be little helpers too.  They love to help take out the trash or get out their own diapers during diaper changing time.

My favorite part of our day is first thing in the morning. The children are well rested and are excited for a new day of fun with their friends.  I enjoy singing with our class.  We sing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, If You’re Happy and Know It, and Wheels on the Bus.  We get very excited to sing the Wheels on the Bus and do all hand motions.  Along with Brown Bear, my favorite book to read to the class is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.   Our class is happiest when it is time to go play outside.  They enjoy the big slides and the trucks.  At lunchtime one of our favorite meals is Chicken Alfredo.  If they can’t get enough on their spoons they will just pick it up with their hands. We have lots of good times in our class at CLC from morning till time to go home.  It is never a dull moment.

I enjoy my job at CLC.  I love working with children. They are precious to me and I love their families. At times, my job can be difficult, especially when some kids go through the biting phase and when it rains so much, like this year, and we can’t go outside enough.  I just have to say and extra prayer for patience and move on.  Before you know it is the end of the day. I kiss my babies goodbye and I go home and rest up for another day.

My advice to a new teacher is to do your best job.  God says, “Give your employer an honest day’s work.”  My favorite bible verse Philippians 4:13- “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”   This verse reminds me to keep believing in myself.  My favorite quote which is from the Bible is “Before he formed me, He knew me.”

A few things on my bucket list are

  • Owe no one.
  • Help Grandchildren
  • Love Others
  • Stay focused and be positive
