Ten years of Blessings

Get to know our teachers…

 Two Year Olds

Hello, my name is Katie Crabtree.   I am 28 years old and I have worked for CLC since 2016.  I have two children, Bryson and Lily Kate.  Bryson is in Pre-K and Lily Kate is in the Creeper class at CLC.  I am a single mom, and my children are my greatest joy in life.  Between work and my children I rarely have even a moment to myself, but when I do get a rare spare minute I like to read and take naps.  I find being a single mom I am not too picky about how I spend my free time; just to be alone is more than good enough.

I am the assistant teacher in our Two year old class. I love working with children.  They amaze me.  Children are sponges. They soak it all up.  Do not think for a minute that they are not listening, learning and watching everything.  Recently we learned about patience as a virtue during circle time.  Soon after that lesson, one of my friends went home and announced to her mother, “patience is a virtue,” when the child was asked to clean up her toys.  Oops!  Another friend, who loves the movie Frozen corrected me and wished for me to say, “Good night, Queen Elsa,” instead of “Sweet Dreams,” before nap time. I have such a sweet class.  They give me many reasons to laugh every day.   As a teacher my favorite subject to teach is anything hands on and the messier the better.  Messy art, exploding science experiments and playing in the sand makes for a perfect day in our class.  I praise my class my saying, “Way to go friends” and “Ya’ll make me so proud.”  During our Bible story time our children are all ears.  Their favorite Bible story is “The Birth of Jesus.”   They are engaged and listening from following the star to the wise men giving the gifts to baby Jesus.  Our classes’ favorite Bible verse is from Psalms 118:24: This is the day the Lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it. We shout and sing this verse so loud the heavens can hear.

I love my job.  Every day is different. Really, every hour is different.  I get to come to “work” and dance, sing and hang out with some awesome friends.  It is like I am on an episode of “Kids Say(and do) the Darndest Things!”   There are moments when it is not all fun and games, and like every job it has its challenges.  Two year olds need lots of direction and correction and I have to be a referee. During those moments I have to remind myself they are just children.  They are learning and everything is new for them. Before you know it we are back to fixing hair in “Katie’s Salon”, and dancing to our favorite music.  Above all, the favorite part of my job is their big hugs and their sweet voices when they say, “I love you Ms. Katie.” It is the best!

My advice to a new teacher is to teach UP!  Do not underestimate children.  They are very smart and eager to learn.  But at the same time remember they are only children.  I remind myself of this by saying their ages out loud…it helps!   My favorite bible verse Psalm 37:15: Commit your ways to the Lord; trust in Him.  I have to remember, I may never understand His wisdom, but I simply have trust His will.  I also like to remember a quote from the Cookie Monster, “Today me will live in the moment, unless it is unpleasant, in which case, me will eat a cookie.”

A few things on my bucket list are
