Ten years of Blessings

Get to know our teachers…

 Two Year Olds

Hello, my name is Kristen Wallace.   I am 32 years old and I have worked for CLC since July of 2012.  I have three beautiful children.  I have twin girls, Maigan and Madelyne, and a son, Blake.  Megan and Madeline are in Middle School at Lafayette School District and Blake is five years old and attends CLC.  My twins like to do pageants and I am their pageant coach, hair stylist, and makeup artist.  They have both won local titles and competed in the Miss Magnolia State last November.  Blake is my boy and my buddy.  He loves to read and has a lively imagination and likes to tell you all about his “world.”  Being the only boy in the family he is often the center of our attention and the love of our lives.  My hobbies are my children’s activities and being wherever they are is where I am happiest, but I enjoy reading and a long bath when I get time alone.

I am the lead teacher in our Two year old class. I love my job at CLC.  It is very rewarding.  Where else can you work that you are greeted by 12 smiling faces that are genuinely excited to see you.  The hugs and “I love you” randomly given to me throughout the day come just when they are needed.  My favorite lesson to children is to love one another.  In the world we live in, hate is taught and shared far more than love.  We need more love in the world.  I want the children in my class to love each other despite our differences.  The Easter Story is my favorite Bible Story to read to children.  I am teaching the love of Jesus and they always remember it.  They will repeat it for the rest of the year.  Our favorite Bible verse is Psalms 139:14:  I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

We have lots of fun in our class and I cherish so many sweet memories. One of my favorite memories is our children praying. Ms. Shirley in their previous class sure taught these children how to pray and some of them can mimic her prayers to the last letter.  They catch on to things so quickly and can retain so much information.  Just when you think they are not listening, they prove you wrong.  I am amazed at them daily.

Teaching is not always fun and it can be a challenge.  It is hard for two year olds to understand that everything is not theirs and sharing is the right thing to do.  Potty training can be difficult too.   My class is the optimal age for potty training.  Sometimes it is a breeze but sometimes it can be frustrating. We have lots of rewards and treats to help them.  And just when you get really discouraged they do it and we celebrate.  By summer time all the challenges turn over to victory and we are amazed again at how much they have learned and grown. As the saying goes the days are long, but the years are short and time has come to say my goodbyes and they move on to their next room.  I sure do miss them but it helps that they are nearby.

My advice to a new teacher is to remember you are teaching little people.  They are learning and watching your every move.  They want to be just like you.  Many of them will spend more of their active time with you than their own family, so they need a lot of love and guidance.

My favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11.   I like to remember this verse especially when everything seems to be going wrong, it is a reminder that God has a plan and it will be ok.  To go along with that verse I like the quote: “Everything is going to be ok in the end.  If it is not ok, it is not the end.”  This quote reminds me that God works all things to the good for those who love him.

A few things on my bucket list are

  • Learn to Surf
  • Move to the Beach
  • Become a Nurse Practitioner- or cosmetology and own my own salon/pageant boutique
  • Know my DNA/Genealogy
  • Be on Wheel of Fortune
