Ten years of Blessings

Get to know our teachers…

 Two Year Olds

Hello, my name is Kristi Robertson.   I am 28 years old and I have worked for CLC since 2009.  I came to work at CLC right out of high school.   I am the assistant teacher in a two year old class.  But over the past 9 years I have worked with Toddlers, Twos and Four year olds.  I enjoy all the different ages.  When I am not at work, I babysit, A LOT! The children and families I babysit for are like family to me and they keep me very busy.  Babysitting is something I like to do for extra money, but I always make time for church and friends. My friends and I enjoy eating out and whenever there is a good concert or movie to see we will make plans to go. My hobby is arts and crafts.  I often make homemade gifts for my close friends and families. I also love to sing.

I am the Assistant Teacher in a Two year old class. I love my class and my job.  My job is not just a job to me.  I consider it a place where I can serve using the gifts God has given me.  It is also a rewarding job.  I get to walk into a room of precious two year olds who always greet me when I walk into the class.  They jump up and down and cheer, Miss Kristi is here, Miss Kristi is here!  Throughout the day, I get random “I love you”, and leg hugs that are the best!  Two year olds have such unique personalities and it is fun to watch them develop throughout the year.

As a teacher my favorite unit to teach is Community Helpers.  The children really enjoy getting to go see real firemen, police officers, and Veterinarians.  We make goody baskets for our community helpers and pass them out to show our appreciation for their service to our community.  We also love the Easter story; it is my favorite story to read to the children every year.   It amazes me how much they understand.  A child once repeated the story back to me and said, “Jesus loves us so much that he got a “boo-boo” for us and he loves us.”  They get it!  We have two favorite bible verses in  our class: "I can do all things through God who strengthens me," and Phil 4:13, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  Your works are wonderful, I know that full well." Psalms 139:14. We memorize these verses every year.  I think these are great words for kids to have in their hearts.

One of the funniest things that I can remember as a teacher at CLC was when I was working with the 4 year olds and I told a child she wasn’t listening and she quickly answered me back with lots of sass, “That’s how I roll.”  I wanted to roll on the floor laughing.  I was not expecting that response and I couldn’t help but laugh.

We have lots of laughs but teaching can be challenging.  Two year olds are still very self-centered and teaching them to share and cooperate with their friends is the most challenging task of a two year old teacher.  Second to sharing, potty training is our most difficult task to get accomplished before the end of the year.  It is important to be consistent with your rules and expectations every day and give them lots of praise.  I praise my class by saying: “I am so proud of you!  “That makes me happy.”  “You did it!”  “I knew you could do it.”   On the hardest days and my advice to a new teacher is to remember all the hard work it worth it to the children.  It is even a great gift to yourself to love and nurture sweet children, even the not so sweet ones with the absolute best love we can give.  It is always important to give grace and make sure children feel safe.

My favorite Bible verse is, “Whatever you do, do it heartily as to the Lord and not to men.”  Colossians 2:23-24.  My favorite inspirational quote is from Mother Teresa, “If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”
